"It is always nice to get a prize", Tan Chui Mui said during the award ceremony", It is especially nice when it is the sixth awards".
"Some might think it is meaningless winning one award after another, I think it shows that this film is loved and appreciated by many", said Tan Chui Mui.
The Jury Awarded The LINO MICCICHE' PESARO NUOVO CINEMA PRIZE to Flower In The Pocket, by the Malaysian director LIEW SENG TAT. Jury stated: "a courageous debut film of which we appreciated the precision and the lightness with which it touches issues that are sometimes cruel. We particularly loved the lack of complacency with which it tackled the world of childhood."
Tan Chui Mui, Amir Muhammad and Wong Tuck Cheong were at the 44th Pesaro Film Festival for a Special Highlight on Malaysian Cinema. There was also a focus on Amir Muhammad. That includes the world premiere of "Susuk", co-directed by Amir Muhammad and Naeim Ghalili.
Liew Seng Tat couldn't make it to Pesaro because he's attending another film festival in Slovakia. Here's a little note from him:
After a long night of drinking, I staggered back to the hotel. Had a long talk with the cute blond girl at the receiption but most of the time I didn't know what I was talking about. Poor girl.
I went to my room and crawled to where my laptop was. I wanted to check my emails. I managed to turn on my laptop and logged in to my mailbox but I was too drunk to read the mails. Tan Chui Mui's "We won in Pesaro!" email was opened the whole night but I was unconcious on the floor.
Flower In The Pocket was an Italian virgin before it premeired in Pesaro. Being a proud 'mother' of the film, I'm extremely happy and glad that it was deflowered in style by getting the Lino Micciche Award. It's pity that I wasn't there to witness the deflowering process.
Ok, that's for now. Like the Slovaks say: Ciao Ciao!
regards,
Seng Tat
