Cinema is an illusion. It's a magic act. Sometimes it can be a cheap trick, but if I'm lucky, I may witness an act that mystifies on a deeper level. It's wonderful when cinema can be a surprising act - delving into reality first masked by an element of illusion then hitting you suddenly with a final act of surprise. Something mystical from something ordinary. Cinema allows me to create the illusion within the reality yet speak about reality directly. But an illusion is just another lie. This was the starting point of "Karaoke."
