The 9th edition of the Deauville Asian Film Festival, France, had a special focus on the movies of Malaysian director James Lee, 33, as a talent to watch.
This focus was to acknowledge Lee's status as one of the pioneer digital filmmakers of the region, who has amassed a promising body of work since his debut in 2001. This is the first time that a French festival devoted such a focus to a Malaysian.
The festival screened all 6 of Lee's digital features including the European premiere of his latest, "Things We Do When We Fall in Love."
Held in the luxurious resort town of Deauville since 1999, the Deauville Asian Film Festival is a competitive event that gathers together the cream of Asian cinema. Aside from Lee, this year the festival also has a focus on Korean auteur Park Chan-Woo, director of "JSA", "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" and the Cannes award-winning "Oldboy."
The festival was held from 28 March to 1 April.
Both of Lee's recent movies, "Before We Fall in Love Again" and "Things We Do When We Fall in Love," will be released in Malaysia from 10 May, exclusively at GSC Digital screens in MidValley Megamall, 1 Utama and Gurney Plaza.
