Malaysian filmmaker Tan Chui Mui has been invited by the Embassy of France in Malaysia to attend the 61st edition of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, to take part in "Hommages Aux Femmes", a special week devoted to female filmmakers, producers and actresses from Asian, African and South American countries.
"This will be my third time in Cannes. The first year as a journalist, the second year with the Cannes Residency Programme, and now as a woman filmmaker,"Tan Chui Mui said, "I hope one year I should finally present my film in Cannes."
"Cannes is a real celebration for cinema, and they do have a very good selection.
"I don't like the glamor and the red carpet that much, but I really like to wake up everyday at 7am, to watch the first press screening at 8:30am at the festival Palais and follow it with another three films in the day."
Tan Chui Mui is actively involved in the Malaysian film scene. Her debut feature film, "Love Conquers All" has won numerous international film awards, including the Pusan New Currents Award and Rotterdam Tiger Award. She established Da Huang Pictures with Amir Muhammad, James Lee and Liew Seng Tat.
Tan Chui Mui is leaving for Paris on 12th May. The Cannes Film Festival will run from 14th to 25th May.
