I abandoned my contempt towards the Malaysian cinema-going experience last night to catch your film at GSC Gurney Plaza in Penang. I was extremely glad I did, even though the cellphone-yakking, running-commentator quarters in the audience remained at large.
I found it particularly uplifting that it managed to remain gently grounded and did not resort to overt and obvious juxtaposition, so favoured by many "new" films intent on flashing their Malaysian identity on their sleeves. While I fully applaud the groundswell of good filmmaking by my fellow countrymen, I still appreciate films first and foremost as incarnations of stories, not so much vessels for conveying nationalist sentiments.
Your film stayed true to the story first and paid only requisite homage to the Malaysian backdrop. The acting leads were wonderful, the delivery of each childish nuance rounded without being cloying. Congratulations! It was a fine piece of cinema, Malaysian or not.
I did wonder if the point about female sovereignty was deliberate, i.e. Ayu's mother coping and running the household with a seemingly absent male figure vs Sui and the boys falling apart without a wife/mother. Was that takeaway intended?

Good film. It brought me back to that time; every child once hopes that he/she can sleep with his/her uniform.

Hi Picnicbasket and Sook,

Thanks for supporting the film.

Thanks for making an effort to leave you comments and feedbacks here(which we Da Huang folks appreciate really much).

When the film was opening for the very 1st time in Pusan, The audience there loved it. Yes, I was concerned about how the audience would react to this small foreign film coming from Malaysia but what I'm most concerned about is how people here would react to it when I bring it back home coz this film is made for Malaysians.

I'm glad to know how wonderfully FITP is being received by our local audience so far.

Happy New Year and here's to more local films! Yam Seng!

Well done!
Only a little regret by the small turn-out on the day I went into the theater.
I copied the photo and posted it into a website in China, I think the "Mah brothers" won't mind my abrupt action without asking for permission first. However, only those with membership privilege may see it there.

I must say i really enjoyed this movie!Even enjoy more than some of the big budget hollywood movies!
Just will be better if it is longer and tell more story of the kids in the school and their relationship with their classmates.
I hope the movie will be sold in dvd soon so i can watch it again and recommend it to others.
Hope Da Huang picture can keep up with the good work and make more quality local movies!

Hi all,

it's going to be exciting for us here in Da Huang pictures. Mui is trying to do a romantic comedy for her next one. I'm planning to do romantic comedy too but it's a horror one. A horror romantic comedy. Now start choking!

Flower in The Pocket

Li Ahh and Li Ohm grow up motherless. They are neglected by their father Sui, a workaholic who spends the bulk of his time mending broken mannequins in his workshop. While he shuts himself out from the world, the two brothers roam the streets, get into fights and other troubles in school but for all they want is just love and to be loved.
